Home Air Conditioning Maintenance
Clean filters, clear outdoor units, and annual servicing keep AC efficient.

Air conditioning works hard in summer. Dirty filters and blocked coils raise energy bills and reduce cooling.
Basic maintenance is simple.
Filters
Clean or replace filters every one to three months during heavy use. Clogged filters restrict airflow and can freeze coils.
Outdoor unit
- Keep a clear space around it
- Remove leaves and debris
- Gently hose dust off the fins with power off
- Straighten bent fins with a fin comb
Drain line
Condensate drains can clog, causing leaks. Check they are clear.
Professional service
Annual servicing checks refrigerant, electrical parts, and efficiency. Refrigerant work must be done by certified technicians.
Signs your AC needs attention
Warning signs include weak airflow, warm air from vents, ice on the indoor unit or pipes, water leaking indoors, unusual noises, and higher energy bills. Switch the unit off if it is icing up and check the filter. Persistent problems need a technician, as low refrigerant usually means a leak that must be found and repaired rather than just topped up.
